I'm suppose to do these updates weekly but yeah I don't know where my time has been going lately but I must get back on schedule. I know I keep saying that. Anywho Week 5 & 6 of my training went as following.
Week 5.
This turned out being a hectic week kind of.
I also decided to do interval training all week to see how I felt about it.
Monday was rest day! Tuesday I did a 3 mile run. I'm finding that right now my more comfortable pace is between 10-10:30 though I can really push to 9:30-9:45 but with this humidity I rather go for comfort then speed. For this run I did 3:1 intervals. 3 minutes of running, 1 minute of walking. I liked it however with this one I really pushed myself during the 3 minutes and I felt myself starting to feel a little burnt out after 20 minutes though.
Wednesday I did cross training as well as a run. 4:1 intervals. 3 miles again. Like this one as well. I remembered not to go too hard on the running parts.
I didn't run Thursday because unfortunately Jay got really sick Wednesday and we ended up at the hospital Wednesday and Thursday. He's much better now. :). Friday I cross trained some more which may have not been such a great idea because my legs felt really heavy during my long run.
Saturday I set out for my long run of 7 miles. I was doing 5:1 intervals. This worked out well for me. Though I felt a little tired towards the end it could be moreso because of the fact that I was doing 7 miles and I hadn't in a really REALLY long time. Let's not talk about how I fell during the home stretch. My song of the moment Roar came on and I was really into it when I tripped and slid. It sucked.
Week 6.
Monday was my typical rest day. Tuesday I wasn't really in the mood to run but you gotta do what you gotta do which really sucked because I set out to do 3 miles and when I was almost at the half way point I thought - "hey I actually think I'm scheduled to do 4 miles today" - so I checked and yup I was suppose to be doing 4 which meant I had to push myself even harder but I got it done.
Wednesday was 3 miles. Did a sub 10. Let's talk about how my head looks so big and weird in these two pics. Well let's not talk about it actually.
Thursday was another 4 miler. Nothing too special about it. I also did a quick 16 minute tabata workout that I enjoy prior to the run.
Friday I did a really fun cross-training workout that I'll brag more about on Wednesday! Plan to do this workout this wednesday!! 45 - 50 mins of fun!
Well depending on your definition of fun.
Saturday I set out for 8 miles. New route and I was nervous. The last time I did 8 miles was back in April. But it went well. I set out to do intervals. I have come to the conclusion that I really like doing them and I think they work well for me. I did a mixture of 5:1, 4:1, and 3:1 just to keep it interesting. I also have started using Nuun tablets in my water and for the first time I tried sports beans. Two thumbs up for them both!
8 miler splits.
Mile 1 and 8 I ran without walk breaks.
Sunday Recovery run. I ran on my couch. o_O. Yeah I was suppose to do it in the evening but that didn't happen.

How do you feel about doing run/walk intervals during runs?
