Bombshell Transformation: Melissa decided enough was a enough!

This week's Bombshell is Melissa from FitGirlsRock! Who has lost weight and began competing in fitness competitions!

Here's a little Q&A with Melissa..

Height: 5'3"
Highest Weight: 156lbs
Current Weight: I don't weigh myself anymore but I presume anywhere around 125- 130lbs
What factors contributed to the weight gain? bunch of things. Lack of knowledge on proper nutrition and diet, busy lifestyle with university studies and then a very busy work schedule. Moving away from home and into a new city.
What motivated you to lose the weight? I just honestly woke up one day and said enough is enough and chose to finally do something about it. I was having minor health issues with IBS, very painful PMS, migraines, etc and so I chose to eat healthy, get a personal trainer and train hard with weights as well as cardio and bam I felt better almost immediately!
How long did it take you to lose the weight?  It took me about 6 months to notice any major changes. I started training hard in October of 2011 and by November of 2012 I was stepping on stage for my first fitness competition!
What are your eating habits like now and then? Are you vegan or paleo or anything or do you just eat clean? I just eat clean but I am gluten free and dairy free. I eat 5-6 small meals a day, drink 3L of water a day and if I want a treat I have it just in moderation of course. I eat to fuel my body now where as back then I just ate with no real conscious thought.
What do you do now to maintain and/or continue your weight loss?
To maintain I simply eat clean (5-6 small meals a day) and I train with weights 5 days a week plus I do fasted cardio in the morning before work 3-4 days a week. When I am prepping for a show my diet is a little more restricted and I train 5-6 days a week (weights and cardio) with 1 rest day :)
Currently:
Sunday: rest day
Monday: Legs
Tuesday: fasted cardio/ back & biceps
Wednesday: total body workout & power yoga
Thursday: fasted cardio/ Chest & Triceps
Friday: shoulders
Saturday: fasted cardio or active rest day

This varies but this is a sample
What is your ultimate or current fitness goal?
I am a very goal-oriented person so I am always working toward something. I want to compete again in the new year, I want to become a Spartan Trifecta member, I am always aiming to beat personal bests at the gym and I am studying to become a certified personal trainer.
Were any weight loss aids (i.e surgeries, pills, herbalife, etc) used to assist in your journey to a better you?  None.
Do you have a quote, mantra, or something that you live by?
"Of course it's hard. It's supposed to be hard. If it were easy everyone would do it. The ahrd is what makes it great!"
Any social medias so that others can reach out to you?
Anything else you may want to add about your journey feel free to do so!
Fitness is a huge passion of mine. I would eventually like to only do fitness related things as my job :) I love to lift heavy and I love being that woman at the gym lifting heavier things than the men. It makes me feel empowered and badass.
It is a learning process and everyone's body is different. My biggest advice is to never give up on your dreams. The struggles are all apart of the process and they make your story; your own! Be positive and stick with it; you can do it!

I know Melissa has and will continue to inspire others with her story and as she continues her journey. Thank you for allowing me to feature you as this week's Bombshell!

I am pretty sure I was luckily enough to come across Jessi's blog through one of the link ups and I was amazed by her transformation that started this year! She looks amazing, is inspiring, and still pushing to reach other fitness goals!

Here's a little Q&A with Jessi..

I just might turn into The HULK!

Or a green monsta!
As you all know, I'm participating in the Great 48 Instagram weight loss challenge. To really jump start this challenge I decided that I'm going to do a 2 or 3 day detox type challenge. I am going to - waiiiit for it  - drink only green smoothies for the next two possibly three days. I want to do 3 days but I might not make it. LOL! We shall see if the willpower persists!

Why you may ask? Well why not! I love green smoothies. Great meal replacements as well as a great snack so why not have it for both! I plan on drinking 5 green smoothies a day. Breakfast. Snack. Lunch. Snack. Dinner. No snack. Oh and I will have an apple for my pre workout snack.

Okay okay okay I know some of you are like what in the world is a green smoothie! Well my little grasshoppers it is something I never knew about until last year! It's a smoothie with fruit and leafy greens (usually spinach or kale). I use Spinach in mine normally and when I feel like living on the edge I'll throw in some Kale. Kale is a different acquired taste for me. That I haven't acquired yet.  My normal green smoothie recipe is a very simple one: About a cup of water, some ice, lots of spinach (2 - 4 handfuls - start small until you get use to the taste), a cup of frozen strawberries, and a small frozen banana. Your fruit doesn't have to be frozen but I prefer it that way so it can be nice and chilled and kind of thick! Sometimes like in the picture below I add in other fruit like blueberries or frozen mango chunks as well as some protein powder! With my challenge I will add protein powder to one of the smoothies every day!

Now when you're detoxing you're not usually as energized as you can be so I don't know how my first few days of Insanity (yes I start that tomorrow!) will go! But come Thursday I hope to be like the Hulk or at least a green energizer bunny!

Wish me luck. I will keep you all updated on how it goes!

xoxo, the coily bombshell
