Flapjacked Banana Hazelnut Protein Pancakes review + WIAW

A quick WIAW before diving into the review.
These are my favorite eats from the past few days.

I was in the mode for pancakes alot last week. I mean that's really nothing new.

Flapjacked Banana Hazelut Pancakes topped with cinnamon honey bananas & strawberries.

Egg white oatmeal pancake topped cinnamon honey bananas & strawberries.

While looking at apartments, picked up these goodies. Don't judge me.
It's national candy month.

I made some yummy chili. Simple ground turkey, dice tomatoes, black beans, and corn.

I love salads with fruit.

My favorite wings from Pollo Tropical.

In my defense, Pizza Hut had a deal. Large pizza for $5.55. Tell me you'll say no to that!

& I had to get some dessert. It was amazing.
Vanilla soft serve ice cream with fresh strawberries and oreo crumbs.

They were out of my normal Mickie Mouse snack pack so I got this one.

My dinner last night. Pineapple chile tilapia with mixed veggies.

Flapjacked Protein Pancakes -
Banana Hazelnut  Review
*disclaimer* - this review is my own thoughts and I was not compensated for it.

Like I said in my first review of Flapjacked pancakes, I have a pancake addiction so I'm always on the look out for healthier pancake recipes. I purchased the 3 pack sample of the flapjacked protein pancakes and this is my 2nd review. The first one is on the Cinnamon Apple flavor.

These are so very easy to make. You just add water, stir, and let sit for 3 - 5 mins to thicken. Then you make your pancakes. Says it makes between 6 - 8. I got 6 out of it.

I made these and topped each pancake with cinnamon honey bananas and then on the very top I also added on strawberries. It was so amazing to me. No syrup was necessary at all.  Also this one has more protein then the Cinnamon Apple!

Yes I did try them sans anything and just like the Cinnamon Apple flavor, so good and moist. I ate three for breakfast, and the other 3 throughout the day for protein packed snacks!. Can't wait to try the last flavor which is  Buttermilk! Now I know some of you may be wondering, which of the two flavors I like the best. Well I'm sorry to say, my lips are sealed as I can't decide.

Pancakes or waffles?
-I don't care for waffles. Weird I know. Or so people tell me it's weird.

Favorite eat from the last week?
-The soft serve ice cream. Nom Nom Nom

Don't you just hate...

Good morning bombshells and gentlemen! Happy Saturday! Happy 3 day weekend for most!

Last night I decided to use my bestie, google, to look up some alternative toppings for pancakes other than the dangerous high fructose corn syrup ones Aunt Jemima and 'nem be throwing in my face at the grocery store. I know there's Agave, and honey, and even the coconut nectar I had but I wanted to know all my options. Well I came across a few I want to try, like homemade blueberry syrup and most importantly applesauce. When I saw that option it intrigued me. Blew my mind a little. Applesauce on top of pancakes. Things that make you go hmmmmm.

Egg white oatmeal pancakes! Simple and yummy!

My chair massage today gave me life. The focus was on my neck. Lately my neck has been bothering me and it's probably because I stare at a computer screen 90% of my waking hours. Blasphemy.

After my massage, I used my hour lunch break to go to the gym and knock out my final workout of the week. Livefit week 1 pretty much complete on the workout tip. Still have to continue to eat healthy and I plan on having active rest days. By active I mean not laying on the couch stuffing my face 24/7.

Tomorrow and saturday I think I am going to do yoga and flexibility stretches. I really want to do a split one day. Like really. It's a goal.

Friday night rambling + Banana pcakes!

This week has been so busy but not busy. Boring but not boring. All of that if you know what I mean. I've procrastinated a lot with school but I'm pretty much all caught up now. One more month before I'm done with my first semester of grad school - THANK YA JESUS!

true story O_O

In the morning I'm going to my first TRX class. TRX was first developed by the Navy SEALS and is supposedly an intense workout. "It is a total-body suspension-training workout, which means it involves working against gravity to perform moves that activate different muscle groups – all while the upper or lower body is suspended above ground." o_O . So I'm EXCITED... sooooo excited .....

......

So I just finished making and eating some banana pancakes. They are so simple and you could probably go make them this very instance. 2 ingredients: Eggs & a banana.  I liked them but maybe not good idea for dinner. Good snack option though!

You take 2 whole eggs &1 banana. Mix them together smoothly and then on a greased pan or griddle, make them pancakes baby!

Sidenote: anyone else suck at flipping pancakes? No? Just me. Oh ok.
Yup total and utter complete fail.

I got the recipe for my new obsession Blogilates. Here is a video of Cassey showing how to make them!

Anyway enough of me procrastinating, back to homework I go. Blah. With a little bit of TLC channel. It's wedding Friday. I'm addicted to these shows. Say yes to the dress, four weddings, something borrowed, etc. I love wedding shows. Don't judge me.

Frank Friday & Coconut flour pancakes!

Can I be quite frank with you all? Not that I'm usually anything less but I figured I can make Friday's a day where I just spill all my frustrations and etcetera from the week before refreshing and starting the weekend.

Excuse the language

1) I am not feeling this two workouts a day thing. I honestly don't know if I'm going to continue with Insanity. Not if I want to run consistently as well. It's really just a lot. Honestly, to lose weight you don't have to workout twice a day. 30 mins to an hour of intense work is good enough to see progress!  Anywho, it's starting to put a toll on me wanting to even workout.

2) This week has kind of sucked. I didn't workout on Monday or Wednesday. Monday because I felt I should rest from the 10 miles & Wednesday because after trying to go for a run on Tuesday, I realized I needed to rest and ice a bit more. Then because of that I worked out even more harder on Tuesday (did 3 workouts) & thursday (Did 2.5 (.5 for Insanity ab workout) workouts). Thankfully I was able to do 5 miles this morning without problems!

3) This work week has been hell. Between working out I've been working 10hr+ days. Someone hand me a gun.

4) Because my knees were bothering me I decided not to do the race tomorrow. Ugh missing out on 2 medals.

Think that is all. Anywho, this morning I tried making some coconut pancakes. Taste wise they didn't taste bad but thanks to my pancake maker not being awesome like it use to be, I had to make them myself and though I am pancake obsessive, I suck at making pancakes on the stove top. Hence why I have a pancake maker. Now I must get a new one!

But yeah they were pretty decent. I made decent size pancakes and I made about 13 total. Would have made about 2 more but one of the pans I used wasn't non stick and well... yeah.

I got the idea for this recipe from The Informed Health Nut . Hers' is for waffles which is why it probably made way more pancakes. I changed some ingredients as well. I will continue to try to perfect this. But give it a try if you dare :)

Cinnamon Spice & Everything Nice
Coconut flour Pancakes

Ingredients:

  • 4 whole organic eggs
  • 8 egg whites
  • 1/3 cup of unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 tsp of vanilla
  • 4 spoonfuls of unsweetened applesauce
  • half of a ripe banana, mashed
  • few shakes of cinnamon
  • few shakes of nutmeg
  • few shakes of ginger
  • few shakes of pumpkin spice
  • 1/4 tsp of salt
  • 1 tsp of baking soda
  • 1/2 cup of coconut flour
  • 2 tbsp of coconut oil, melted

Directions:

In a large bowl add the eggs, egg whites, almond milk, vanilla, mashed banana, and applesauce. Mix together and set aside. Then in another bowl mix together the coconut flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, pumpkin spice, and salt.  Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients mix a little bit and if you have a blender, mix ingredients in the blender to make a bit more smooth. Add the coconut oil in last.

Using a non stick pan or pancake maker, make the pancakes (this is where I suck). I put the stove on medium high. I did one pancake at a time which took time. For me the batter was not thick at all (I want to work on making it a bit thicker, any suggestions?) so I could only do one at a time. After about the 5th pancake, it got easier lol. I stopped and ate my breakfast and then continued :)! I made enough to eat two more times!

This recipe would also work great for my waffle eaters out there :)

I topped mine with light syrup and enjoyed. These are full of protein and fiber :)

Servings: Depends on the size of pancake / waffles.
Calories: Not sure, didn't add them up but I'm sure not much! I promise!

Weekend fun! 10 miles & more :)

Saturday was a great day! Woke up and me and two of my friends went running with my running group for our standing saturday run. Always a great time and a great way to start off a Saturday!

Later that day I went to one of my close friends Bridal Shower! I am so happy to be apart of this time with her! I love seeing people in love and being in love and witnessing love. I just love LOVE!

I loved my outfit for the bridal shower! I was looking fierce hunni!

Sunday was the day I challenged myself then ate really good (Not as a reward for running 10 miles I promise!). I ran 10 miles Sunday morning! My longest run ever! Prior to that it was 8 miles. Yeah I think I am truly an official runner now lol. I did it in 1hr and 44 mins! Pretty awesome if you ask me! Now everyone wants to know when my first half marathon will be. HOLD YOUR HORSES PEOPLE! I'm not ready yet!

Stopped and took a pic as I ran over a bridge

Made it to the halfway point. The Prime Outlets.

ran along President Barack Obama parkway :)

These gave me the extra energy I needed every 40 mins!

St. Patty Day inspired Pom Poms!

So after running it was time to EAT! Me and a few of my friends went out to Keke's for breakfast because some were visiting from out of town. Keke's is an awesome breakfast spot in Orlando. I am obsessed (as mentioned before) with pancakes and they serve pancakes bigger than my face! All the other food is delicious as well but I'm positive some kind of crack is in the pancake mix as well as the toast.
Yup ALL MINES! Blueberry pancake with strawberries and bananas on top, cinnamon raisin toast, turkey bacon, turkey sausage, home fries(potatoes).

Then after that me and my girl booski that was visiting from out of town went to the farmer's market to get some stuff for dinner as well as do what we do best, people watch. It was a great day to just sit and relax at the park and watch people who don't know that they're being watched. If you don't people watch, you're missing out on life!!

After all that, we ended up going to a shopping center and doing a little bit of shopping. We both have problems. We admit it.

Finally we ended up back home and rested a bit. Though I should have been doing homework but I had been up since 5:30 and I needed a mini nap after eating my breakfast leftovers!

That night I learned that following directions when it comes to a new mandolin is key. More on that later as well as the recipe for this amazing dinner that I cooked. Zucchini Lasagna!

Dinner was followed with another treat (hey I ran 10 miles that morning). On Friday I had a groupon that was expiring at this ice cream shop (Brusters) and ended up having to get 6 oreo ice cream sandwiches. All for myself! JK! I popped those bad boys in my freezer for treats for when I really feel like I deserve something awesome in my life. Which included Sunday night in that moment. It was so so awesome. I can't even describe how awesome. Mmmmmh ice cream.

What is your favorite breakfast spot?
How do you usually spend your sundays?
Do you people watch?

Pancakes - POPEYE STYLE!

Today has been relaxing. I woke up and caught up with my daily yoga and then spent the afternoon at the park. I did a 3 mile walk while reading my book club's book of the month Sacre Bleu. Then I relaxed by the water and tried to read up on some homework and some of Women's Health. I had all this great strength thanks to my wonderful breakfast!

I came across the recipe for these on one of my newly favorite blogs. I am learning to get into trying new things so I was actually excited to try these. I am a pancake fanatic sooooo why not mix my love for pancakes with my love for spinach?! I know I know, most people are going to think .... "Spinach pancakes - Ewwww" - at least that was one of my responses on Instagram but to my surprise and maybe many others if you chose to give these bad boys a try, they are quite good!

Popeye's Pancakes

Ingredients:

1/2 Cup of Pancake Mix (I used what I had which was Log Cabin All Natural Pancake Mix)
1/3 Cup of Unsweetened Almond Milk (though I used Sweetened - it was what I had :-/)
1 tbsp of egg white
1 to 2 cups of leafy greens (i.e. Spinach but hmmm I wonder how Kale would work)
1/4 of a very ripe banana
Dash or 2 of cinnamon
Dash of vanilla extract

Instructions:

Blend all the ingredients together in a food processor or Magic Bullet.

Grease then hit a skillet and put it on medium to low heat.

You want to cook them really slow with low heat. Don't rush them. Let them take their time.

Pour 1/3 of the batter on the skillet. (Don't judge my pancakes circles)

Just as the bubbles begin to pop is when you can flip them!

Enjoy! I did :-) . I kept it simple and just topped them with some light syrup and had the rest of the banana (from the 1/4) and two slices of turkey bacon on the side! Looking forward to this breakfast again in the future.

Serving: For you and only you! I had enough for 3 nicely sized pancakes.
Calories: Mine was 306 calories. Calories would vary depending on pancake mix and sweetened and unsweetened almond milk!

This recipe is compliments of Petite Athleat! She topped hers with other goodies. :)

Do you like to try new recipes with ingredients you'd never imagine? Like Spinach!
